This is the day.

I Samuel 1:1 Now there was a certain man of Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:
2 And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
4 And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:
5 But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.
6 And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.

Peninnah! How often it is that we have a Peninnah in our lives. It seems that this type of person is everywhere. On the job, at the grocery store, in the family, and, yes, even in our churches. It is difficult to deal with these types of people, and extremely difficult to maintain a right attitude toward them. There seems to be no end to who can rub you the wrong way, and they often seem to know that they have this effect on you, and try hard to rub you wrong. It is only through the grace of God that we can overcome these type of adversaries and go on for God.

How Hannah dealt with her adversary and her problem:
I. She wept. Often tears are a great cleansing agent for the soul.
II. She made a vow to God. She promised God that she would do her part if He would help her overcome her problem. We often just expect God to answer prayer without us having to change what we are doing.
III. She prayed ferverently. Hannah sought God in prayer. This was not a "now I lay me down to sleep. Hannah meant business.
