This is the day.

Read II Kings chapter 2.

II Kings 2:9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.

Often as Christians we fall prey to the idea that God cannot work the same way He has before. We lose the vision that is so important to a clear and wonderful walk with God. Many preachers fall into the trap of making statements like, "We'll never see revival like Whitefield had," or, "there will never be another one quite like Spurgeon." Just imagine yourself in Elisha's position for a minute, one of the greatest prophets of all the ages is about to go off the scene, and he asks you, "...what shall I do for thee...?"
At this point, knowing Elijah's relationship with God, many hard things could have been ask, many conclusions could have been drawn, and many ambitions could have been realized. Elisha could have thought, "I could never have a ministry like Elijah," or "Elijah is the greatest, and there will never be anyone who does what he does." However, Elisha asked for a double portion. Even Elijah stated that Elisha was asking for a hard thing. It seems from Scripture that Elisha got his double portion. The question is this, "What is stopping us?" God has not changed!!!

A vision for a double portion.
I. Follow the man of God. Ch.2 vs.2 As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee.
II. Realize what is about to happen in your life. 2:5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace. (the prophet doesn't have to die, God just may be moving you to another place or ministry)
III. Don't be afraid to ask for what you need for your ministry. 2:9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. (10) And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
IV. Remember that God is in control, don't oforget to call on Him. 2:14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.
V. Don't worry about what the other guy is doing or has done. 2:16 And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.
